Both the General Tile/Old Testament title page (dated 1614) and the New Testament
title page (dated 1613) is a woodcut-engraved title with words in a sort of heart
shape in the center; woodcuts depict 12 tribes of Israel and 12
disciples. This Bible is including all preliminary leaves
(dedication, preface, list of books). In the front it is bound
together with an incomplete Book of Common Prayer (lacks before the
Catechism) and a partial Speed's Genealogies (seems to lack about 4
It also has a the complete Apocrypha, and
a "Booke of Psalmes" (with title
page, "Company of Stationers, 1615", with musical bars
(lacks after Psalm 59). The Bible itself ends with colophon 1613. Various
decorated first chapter capitals, colophons and other engravings.
This is Herbert's 324 (from the
Historical Catalogue of Printed Bibles) and it includes the 'S Suke'
(in stead of S Luke) misprint on page A2 - Luke chapter X)
Beautifully - very
professionally - rebound in contemporary style with the
closing hasps!. This QUARTO sized King James Bible is in
an overall VERY GOOD condition. Complete Bible text
with title pages, with the first page of Genesis replaced with a
facsimile. This Bible has clearly been very well read and cared for
and is remarkable good condition. The binding is in excellent
(antiquarian quality restored) condition - you can use, read and
open it daily without having to worry about it coming apart. The (cotton based) paper is
remarkable crisp and clean. Some scribbles by previous owners
(provenance); Various pages (as to be expected, mainly in the front
and the back of the book) with some (mostly smaller) damages - like
tears, cut corners, frayed edges, stains etc (see the many pictures
below). Margins around all text, the New Testament has some cut
