The majestic edition of the famous German printing of the 'super folio' size (16" x 12"!) of the complete series of 230 full page illustrations by the famous Gustave Dore. Including the Old Testament , the Apocrypha and the New Testament.
Dore’s masterpiece and by far the best and most renowned edition of any Gustave Dore illustrated German language Bible produced in the 19th century.
Bound in full tooled and gilt brown leather covers decorated with  gold gilt cross and the text 'Die Heilige Schrift'. Both volumes also have the "Die Heilige Schrift - Illustriert von Gustave Dore" in gold letters on both the spine, together with the volume number. Volume 1 covers Genesis through Song of Songs, Volume 2 Isaiah to Revelation. All edges are gilt. All Dore plates present as called for in contents. Complete in every respect. Bible text translated by Martin Luther.
Also includes the original - never written on - family 'death, birth and marriage' pages.
This Bible set is amazingly preserved and in a VERY GOOD (VG)  condition. Binding is holding well and the books can be used and read - with care (as always) on a daily basis. Gold decorated covers and beautiful decorated/gilted spines. Small piece of leather missing on the cover of the 2nd book. There is some foxing (noting major) on a few pages and a few pencil scribbles but apart from that this set is VERY clean. Original and unmarked family pages. These books weigh about 16 lbs each!
