Bible is SOLD
A handsome offering: a COMPLETE 1617 PULPIT (15.5" x 11"!) folio King James Bible - in well preserved condition in contemporary leather blindstamped binding.
There are a number of early King James folio Bibles offered, but to find a FIRST EDITION PRINTING, COMPLETE with all titles, prelims and also no pages lacking at the end is exceptional! ALSO - this is the RARE SAME TEXT/PRINT as the first edition of the King James Bible (with the same printing errors etc)! It is the original/FIRST edition 59 lines PULPIT version. The 1617 was the third of five issues of the King James Pulpit Bible. It is generally recognized that all the pages whether from the "He" of 1611 or the "She" of 1613/1611, or the 1617, 1634 and finally the 1639/1640 were all printed in the year of 1611 and then bound in their respective years with appropriate title pages in their issue years.
Beautiful leather blind stamped boards and spine with the text 'Holy Bible' and '1617' ib gold letter on red labels. The book opens and reads without concerns.
''The Holy Bible, Containing The Old Testament And The New. Newly tranflated out of the Originall Tongues and with the former Tranflations diligently compared and reuifed by his Maiefties Fpeciall Commandement. Appointed To Be Read In Churches.
Imprinted at London by Robert Barker, Printer To The Kings Most Excellent Maiestie'' Anno : 1617. (Herbert 353)

Text in black letter. Separate title page to 'The New Testament' with broad woodcut border, register & foliation are continuous. Calendar and Table of Content printed in red and black
Very Good (VG) condition. Collates as called for with all prelims and the expensive John Speed engraved and illustrated John Speed's Genealogies (with title page) and a quality facsimile of the double page map (copy made from another 1617 folio). Also two other leaves in the Genealogies supplied in facs. Period calf tooled in blind, rebacked with modern calf, new endpapers and flyleaves. Title page trimmed to the border, mounted on backing paper, thus repairing a few small holes in the engraved border; expert repairs to small holes in the gutters of preliminary leaves affecting a few letters of text, neat repairs to edges of last few leaves; short archival repair to first leaf of Genesis (without loss of text); overall a fine, clean, and very desirable copy. See the many pictures below.

Overall a VERY HANDSOME complete Pulpit KJV Bible
