This exquisitely - chromolithograph (color) -  illustrated Antique - John Brown's Self-Interpreting - Family Bible has MANY attractive and well preserved COLOR lithographs of original paintings from the classic master. The Bible (King James version) itself contains an extensive on-page Rev. John Brown commentary (reads like a modern day study Bible).
"The Self-Interpreting Bible: containing the Old and New Testaments; marginal references and illustrations; ...  by the late Rev. John Brown ... Rev John Eadie"
Apart from the Old and New Testament, there is a (all unmarked) section for family registry and pictures, an extensive introduction,  and a number of tables and indexes with a complete concordance.
A fore-edge painting is decoration painted on the edges of a book’s pages by artist. The fore-edge of a book is like the 'fourth edge' - not the spine, the top, or the bottom edge, but the outside edge that a reader would use to thumb through the pages. Originally, this edge was only used for identification, to more easily spot a book when the edges faced outward. As these paintings were done by hand, usually on request of a more wealthy buyer, it makes this Bible absolutely unique, there is no copy of this Bible with this painting available anywhere else!
This fore edge painting was done by Martin Frost, one of the (if not THE) most renowned fore edge painting artist of today.
This Bible is in a PRISTINE and (close to) EXCELLENT condition. The Bible's binding, spine and cover are beautifully and in good restored condition (you can use this Bible on a daily basis with care as always). Bible is complete, no writings, no tears. Tiny hole to front hinge. VERY clean pages. Original never used family pages
A UNIQUE and ASTOUNDING color illustrated antique family Bible with Fore-edge painting
