One of the rarest and most beautiful Bibles of the 16th century - the Noblest and the Largest of the Geneva Bibles ever printed including amazingly detailed engravings. This edition of the only Geneva pulpit Bible (17" tall x 12" wide and over 5" thick) is complete and in an exceptional preserved quality. Including ALL title pages, the preliminaries, genealogies and calendar, the tables, plus of course the complete Geneva text of the Old and New Testament and Apocrypha.
"The Bible. Tranflated according to the Ebrew and Greek, and conferred with the beft tranflations in diuers languages ... Imprinted at London by Chriftopher Barker, Printer to the Queenes moft excellent Maieftie. 1583. Cum gratia & priuilegio." [Herbert 178]
Very large folio, modern paneled calf, raised bands; with 7 (of 8) original brass corner pieces (missing the bottom inner one on the rear cover), both centerpieces and the upper of the catches on the rear cover; a 19th century bookplate with the inscription "Festina Lente" is retained inside the front cover; there is an inscription in a contemporary hand at the top of the title
This is the last black letter folio edition of the Geneva version. There were only two Pulpit Folios of the Geneva printed, 1578 and 1583. This is called the "Noblest" because it was the larger and finer printing of the two. Most that are still in existence are in poor condition and are missing pages! General and NT titles within woodcut borders; former printed in red and black. Psalter and Apocrypha titles within woodcut historiated border. Full page woodcut of Garden of Eden and huge temple engraving in Ezekiel; woodcut text illustrations and maps. Pages are all with excellent margins and headlines.

It collates as follows Title page, Epistle, Address, Cranmer's Prologue [4 pages], Genealogical Table [11 pages], Almanacke, Kalendar [6 pages], List of bookes, "Hovve to take profite", "Summe of the whole Scripture", "Certaine questions and ansvveres", "Incomparable Treasure", full page Eden engraving. Then the Bible interspersed with a number of tables, maps, woodcuts etc, and at the end two tables (2nd table lacks one page).
Please take your time to enjoy this treasure, following are a total of 90 pictures! Keep scrolling down to see them all!
VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT CONDITION! A VERY CLEAN copy, all full pages. Lacks the third last leaf of the index at the rear, but the text is otherwise complete; there is a bit of soiling, a repair without loss to Kkk2 and the final leaf (with the colophon verso) has the blank outer margin a bit trimmed, but overall a fine copy with wide margins, all titles, the Adam and Eve plate (facing Genesis 1) and a crisp, clean text. See 90 pictures.
Museum quality - excellent and solid binding
