How to browse through our Bibles:
All Bibles are listed in order of publishing date. For each Bible there is a seperate detailed webpage with many, many more pictures that you can reach by clicking on the title of the Bible or at the 'more details' link at the end of the description.
A note on the quality of our Antique Bibles:
We take great pride in the quality of the Bibles we offer. We cannot replace missing pages or undo water damage and so on, but we do make sure that the binding of the pages as well as the covers is in good (daily) useable condition. Therefore most Bibles go through a restoration process where the spines are cleaned of old failing adhesive and loose pages or broken signatures are restored/replaced. Old spine leather is reinforced or replaced and spine reinforcement is applied with new headbands and the cover hinge is extra re-enforced. Also the cover leather is cleaned and treated and if applicable the clasps are cleaned and restored. This is not just a patch job! This process brings the strength of the book back to its original quality!

LARGE folio 17" x 10.5" x 4.5" thick
VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT condition

A very special large folio King James Bible printed with the (extensive) Geneva notes. These notes (by the early reformers, many written by Calvin himself) were one of the main reasons why the Geneva Bible - the predecessor to the King James - was so popular among the people. The King James of 1611 was only issued with very few annotations. This edition has the full set of Geneva in-text annotations which are especially very impressive with in the New Testament (often more than half a page of notes on each page text). In the Old Testament it also includes the famous 'the argument' introductions to each Bible book. Also includes the Apocrypha abd various Tables.
With a map of the world showing California as an island!
Also adorned with 6 large double page maps, including a map of the world (showing California as an island), the location of Eden, the 40 years journey in the desert, a plan of Jerusalem, a map of the holy land during the time of Jesus and the travels of Paul in the book of Acts. [these maps in English are similar as those found so often in the 17th century Dutch Bibles]. These maps have INCREDIBLE details. “The Holy Bible Containing the Old Testament and the New, Newly translated out of the original tongues and with the former translations diligently compared and revised by his Majesties special command. / Appointed to be read in Churches. / Printed in the Year MDCCXV [1715]"

Gorgeous and truly magnificent: The famous and monumental ‘Vinegar Bible,’ also known as the ‘Baskett full of errors,’ and generally acknowledged as the most magnificent Bible printed in England. The text is the King James Version of the English Bible and was printed in large folio by J. Baskett at Oxford in 1717-16. The volume is adorned with numerous beautiful engraved headpieces and tailpieces depicting scenes from the Bible (about 60 in total, about 1/4 of a page each), further adorned with engraved initials, includes the famous typographical error in the headline of Luke XX that reads “The Parable of the Vinegar”. Herbert (#942) calls it "A magnificent edition, printed in large type. With many plates at the beginning and end of books, engraved in steel from the designs of various artists. Some of the initial letters are similarly engraved ... "

This edition is the more elaborately illustrated 'A' variant with Two general titles, the first one - engraved by Du-Bose- represents Moses writing the first words of Genesis. The second full general title (engraved in black and red) reads as follows:  “The Holy Bible, Containing the Old Testament and the New: Newly Translated out of the Original Tongues: And with the former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised. By His Majesty’s Special Command. Appointed to be Read in Churches. Oxford, Printed by John Baskett, Printer to the King’s Most Excellent Majesty, for Great Britain; and to the University. M DCC XVII [1717].”  Famously, John Baskett set out to print the most beautiful, largest, and finest illustrated Bible ever printed, and he largely achieved his vision with this masterpiece of typography and illustration, printed in 1717 (Old Testament and Apocrypha) and 1716 (New Testament).
