How to browse through our Bibles:
All Bibles are listed in order of publishing date. For each Bible there is a seperate detailed webpage with many, many more pictures that you can reach by clicking on the title of the Bible or at the 'more details' link at the end of the description.
A note on the quality of our Antique Bibles:
We take great pride in the quality of the Bibles we offer. We cannot replace missing pages or undo water damage and so on, but we do make sure that the binding of the pages as well as the covers is in good (daily) useable condition. Therefore most Bibles go through a restoration process where the spines are cleaned of old failing adhesive and loose pages or broken signatures are restored/replaced. Old spine leather is reinforced or replaced and spine reinforcement is applied with new headbands and the cover hinge is extra re-enforced. Also the cover leather is cleaned and treated and if applicable the clasps are cleaned and restored. This is not just a patch job! This process brings the strength of the book back to its original quality!

One of the rarest and most majestic Bible of ever printed! - The largest and by many standards the most impressive Bible ever printed. A complete five volume set 'embellished with engravings from pictures and designs by the most eminent English artists.' The first edition of 1800 of the complete seven volume set published by Thomas Macklin. Each volume of this astounding edition is an incredible 19 inches by 15 1/2 inches with spines almost 3 inches across! ABSOLUTELY COMPLETE in every aspect - five volumes (the Old Testament in 4, the New Testament in 1).
Still with original gold gilt covers and antiquarian quality restored binding with leather spines (these massive books can now be opened, read and admired without any concerns about the binding or that they might come apart) . Beautiful gold embossed, especially 6-raised band spines with in gold "Holy Bible", the volume number (I - V) and the books covered in the volume.
(2 title pages:) "The Bible. embellished with Engravings from Pictures and Designs of the most eminent English Artist. London, printed for Thomas Macklin by Thomas Bensley, 1800", "To the King, This Edition of the Sacred Writings, executed under his royal patronage, by His gracious permission, most humbly dedicated, by his Majesties most faithful subject and servant Thomas Macklin, London, January 1791"
A sumptuous edition and one that is and has long been a favorite among Bible collectors. The volumes are very large and heavy. The text is printed in columns almost 14 inches long, embellished by a total of 71 engraved plates and 104 large engraved head- and tailpieces by Landseer, Benjamin West, F. Bartolozzi, J. Heath, W. Skelton, W. Bromley and other have designs by West, Opie, Stothard, W. Hamilton, De Loutherbourgh and others. The plates are marvelous, mostly on New Testament subjects, and the 'headpieces' to the chapters are actually so large as to amount to half- and two-thirds-page engravings. In the tradition of the English 18th century reforms that introduces well-designed and cut typefaces, the typographer has used a good roman font in a large point size, with only 29 lines to a full column and with two columns per page.
An innovation here is that words normally found in italic type are presented in roman with a dot below the first letter. Additionally, scattered through are single line explanatory 'footnotes'. Curiously, the work was issued without a true title-page, though a half- or bastard title page in Volume I reads 'The Holy Bible" and there are complete divisional title pages for the Old and New Testaments with full imprint information.
An AMAZING and ASTOUNDING MAJESTIC Bible!  ...more details ...
