How to browse through our Bibles:
All Bibles are listed in order of publishing date. For each Bible there is a seperate detailed webpage with many, many more pictures that you can reach by clicking on the title of the Bible or at the 'more details' link at the end of the description.
A note on the quality of our Antique Bibles:
We take great pride in the quality of the Bibles we offer. We cannot replace missing pages or undo water damage and so on, but we do make sure that the binding of the pages as well as the covers is in good (daily) useable condition. Therefore most Bibles go through a restoration process where the spines are cleaned of old failing adhesive and loose pages or broken signatures are restored/replaced. Old spine leather is reinforced or replaced and spine reinforcement is applied with new headbands and the cover hinge is extra re-enforced. Also the cover leather is cleaned and treated and if applicable the clasps are cleaned and restored. This is not just a patch job! This process brings the strength of the book back to its original quality!

A quite UNIQUE and RARE English, non-KJV Bible: 'A New and Literal Translation of All the Books of the Old and New Testament with Notes, Critical and Explanatory by Anthony Pulver in TWO Volumes [here both volumes are bound in 1 book}, London ... M DCC LXIV"
As per Herbert's Catalog (#1154): This is an Original Version, by a member of the Society of Friends, who is said to have spent 30 years in its preparation. It contains the complete Bible with additional remarks, indices and extensive commentary/notes. Its intention was to become an alternative for the King James Bible that dominated as often the only available translation in the 18th century. It obviously did not succeed and it did not gain much support.
Professionally rebound with new covers and leather spine. Can be read daily without any binding concerns, No writing, some light occasional foxing but all in all the paper is very clean and crisp. A VERY nice and rare Bible indeed! ... more details...

1828 The Holy Bible (complete in 2 volumes, volume 1: Genesis - Job, volume 2: Psalms - Revelation) containing the Old and New Testaments. On the edge of each book is a one of a kind fore edge painting of a scene showing the towns and landscape of Bethlehem (volume 1) and Jerusalem (volume 2).
A fore-edge painting is decoration painted on the edges of a book’s pages by artist. The fore-edge of a book is like the 'fourth edge' - not the spine, the top, or the bottom edge, but the outside edge that a reader would use to thumb through the pages. Originally, this edge was only used for identification, to more easily spot a book when the edges faced outward. As these paintings were done by hand, usually on request of a more wealthy buyer, it makes this Bible absolutely unique, there is no copy of this Bible with this painting available anywhere else!
The fore-edge paintings are amazing, but very hard to photograph, we did our best, but it is so much nicer when you hold one of the books.   ...more details ...

1871 Bible or Church Book with hidden under the gold gilt an ASTOUNDING vertical fore-edge done by Martin Frost, showing Moses receiving the Ten Commandments. It shows Moses holding the two tablets  high above his head, with people fleeing in terror. This is a one of a kind and is signed by Martin Frost.

As these paintings were done by hand, usually on request of a more wealthy buyer, it makes this Bible absolutely unique, there is no copy of this Bible with this painting available anywhere else! This fore edge painting was done by Martin Frost, one of the (if not THE) most renowned fore edge painting artist of the 20th century.
The Bible itself is published in 1871 in New York.  It is a hard cover and detailed (embossed - black on black) on the front and the back. It has also a metal clasp that snaps together to keep the book from opening. The book has some very little rubbing on the bottom spine. As you open the book, the first page is dated Dec. 26, '73 and shows a person's name, and this was presented to this person by his teacher. The next two pages are dated and signed by the owner of this book detailing events in his life. These two pages are loose but still attached. The fore-edge paintings are amazing, but very hard to photograph, we did our best, but they are so much nicer when you hold the book ...more...
