Description

Begins with The Book of Common Prayer, lacking title page and prelims. General title page (1606) with woodcut border comprising twenty-four small compartments showing the tents of the twelve tribes as well as the figures of the twelve apostles. Title is enclosed within a heart-shaped frame. Text in two column black letter. With Apocrypha as issued. Similar title page to the New Testament. The Two Concordances by R[obert] H[errey] with title page featuring a headpiece and printer’s device. Concludes with the Whole Booke of Psalmes (1605) by Sternhold and Hopkins. First chapter woodcuts initials, head- and tailpieces throughout.

A-Z^8, Aa-Zz^8, Aaa-Yyy^8, Zzz^10. Complete with all title pages.

Binding

Recently rebound in black calf. Covers with blind rules and rolls. Spine with five raised bands, gilt lines and tooling to compartments. Endpapers renewed. All edges gilt.

Condition

Clean text and good margins; Occasional sporadic annotations in a contemporary hand; Infrequent light, mostly marginal staining; final leaf of NT prelims strengthened without loss; Sss2 tear into text, repaired without loss, title to Concordances trimmed without loss, last few leaves of Psalter frayed, lacks the final leaf of the Prayers as common.
