A 1612 folio Geneva Bible with the complete set of 33 woodcut illustrations and maps. Text in two column Roman font in blind-tooled paneled calf with the Tables and Psalter.

Description

General title (n.d.) within engraved architectural border featuring the twelve tribes and twelve apostles, along with various Bible scenes. Text in two column Roman font. Apocrypha included as issued. Printed New Testament title (1612) with woodcut headpiece and printer’s device. Early seventeenth century history records of Poach family on New Testament verso. Bound with Tables, lacks final few leaves. Also bound with Psalter, lacks title page, and with loss to final four leaves of Prayers. Woodcut first chapter initials and decorated head and tailpieces throughout.

A-Z^6, Aa-Zz^6, Aaa-Zzz^6, Aaaa-Zzzz^6, Aaaaaa-Eeeee^6, Fffff1. Lacks Ttt3,4 (Judeth 10-15 from Apocrypha) and a couple of leaves from the Second Table.

Binding

Bound in brown blind-paneled calf. Spine with five raised blind-lined bands. Plain endpapers. Chamberlain’s name is written faintly on the fore-edge. Lightly rubbed and surface splitting to spine.

Condition

Repairs to preliminaries; A1 repaired with loss of a few sidenotes; Hh1 (2 Chron 6) repair without loss; Xx6 (Eccl 15) repair with 25% loss; Yy1 remargined with loss of a few sidenotes; Fff3 (Matt 1) 20% loss to lower outer column; Nnnn3 lower outer column repair without loss; Ppppp 1,2 remargined; Yyyy6-Aaaaa2 (Col 3- Titus 1) stain to upper third; lacks Ttt3,4. Text generally clean with occasional browning or spotting. Good margins.

Note

A nice complement to the 1611 Authorized Version and a good copy overall with the complete set of illustrations and maps.
