[Flanders, Belgium: circa 1480]. Approx. 930 x 590 mm. (6.25 x 4.5 in). 17 lines to the single column written in Latin in a gothic rotunda.
Miniature of Saint James the Greater, patron saint of pilgrims and Spain, with a book in hand, and a bag on his shoulder, and a brimmed hat, illuminated in gold and colors. Richly decorated with ornate floral decorative borders on three sides in gold, blue, green, and red. The borders feature sprays of acanthus leaves in blue and gold, naturalistic flowers, and delicate tendrils typical of Bruges illumination of the mid-15th century. One 2-line foliate initial on recto and another on verso with one illuminated border.
Condition
Clean and vibrant; vague remnants of former mounting in corners.
