An illustrated black letter folio Geneva Bible with the Adam and Eve engraving, four title pages, illustrations, maps, and the famous marginal notes. This sixteenth century folio has been rebound and is suitable for daily use.
Description
General title page (1595) with an architectural border featuring a lion and a dragon. Full page woodcut engraving of Adam and Eve in the Garden before Genesis. Text in two column black letter type. Complete set of woodcut illustrations and maps. Woodcut architectural title to the Second Part. Includes Apocrypha as issued. New Testament title page (1595) with decorative woodcut border. Bound with The Whole Booke of Psalms by Sternhold and Hopkins with architectural title page (1599). Text in single column black letter, and missing the final leaf of Prayers as common. Woodcut first chapter initials, head- and tailpieces throughout.

A^4, A-Z^6, Aa-Zz^6, Aaa-Zzz^6; Aaaa-Zzzz^6; 5A-5M^6, Nnnnn^4. Complete with all titles.
Binding
Rebound in brown half calf. Spine with four raised bands, gilt rules to compartments, and the words “Holy Bible” and “Anno Dom 1595” in gilt. Later marbled endpapers.
Condition
General title page laid down; Adam and Eve engraving frayed, reimagined with small loss to upper edge; small marginal repairs to first leaf of Genesis; B6,C1 with small marginal losses and repairs; Ccc5 with loss to lower sidenotes; New Testament title page with ink scribbles bleeding through; trimmed to fore-edge in the Old Testament, occasionally costing the first letter of sidenotes; intermittent spotting, staining and browning. The few flaws notwithstanding, a complete sixteenth century folio Geneva Bible with good margins throughout the New Testament.
