Description
General title page in facsimile. Text in two column Roman font with the complete set of Geneva illustrations and maps. Printed title page to the Second Part before Psalms. Apocrypha removed, likely by a zealous Puritan. New Testament title page (1603) with woodcut border comprising twenty-four small compartments showing the tents of the twelve tribes as well as the figures of the twelve apostles. The title is enclosed within a heart-shaped frame. Ends on colophon after the Two Tables (1603). Bound with The Whole Booke of Psalmes by Sternhold and Hopkins with printed title page (1604) and printer’s device. First chapter woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces throughout.

A-Z^8 (-A1), &^6, Aa-Qq^8, Aaa-Qqq^8, Rrr^4. Lacks the Apocrypha, the general title page, and the first leaf of Genesis (Gen 1-2), both supplied in facsimile.
Binding
Professionally rebound in dark brown calf. Boards paneled in blind. Spine with four raised bands, blind tooling to compartments, and a gilt-lined red morocco label with the words “Holy Bible” and “1603” to foot of spine. Endpapers renewed. Armorial bookplate of Edward Mainwaring Sladen to front pastedown.
Condition
N3,4 repair to lower margin costing one line of text; Aaa3 repaired burnhold reducing a few letters; Ddd3 closed tear into text without loss; Fff8 loss to upper corner with loss of a few letters; the Psalter lacks the final leaf of Prayers, as common; trimmed, only occasionally touching sidenotes or headlines; minimal staining, a clean and well-preserved copy of the more desirable illustrated quarto Breeches Bible.
