Description

Engraved title page (1607) with a woodcut border comprising twenty-four small compartments showing the tents of the twelve tribes as well as the figures of the twelve apostles. Title is enclosed within a heart-shaped frame. Text in two column black letter. With Apocrypha as issued. New Testament title page (1607) with similar woodcut border. Ends on colophon. With Two Right Profitable and Fruitful Concordances by R[obert] F. H[errey] with printed title page and colophon (1607). First chapter woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces throughout.

Collation

[par]^2, A-Z^8, Aa-Zz^8 (-Ii7,8), Aaa-Yyy^8, Zzz^10. Lacks two leaves containing Eccl 9:11 – Song of Solomon 1:6.

Binding

Rebound in black paneled calf. Covers ruled in blind with rolled border. Spine with four raised bands and a red morocco label with the words “Holy Bible” lettered in gilt, the date to spine. Plain endpapers. Rubbed.

Condition

Soiling and staining, mostly marginal; general title mounted on stub with repair to margins; [par]2 with edge loss; A1 lower margin reinforced; pin-sized worm track from Genesis through Psalms; Ff5-8 stain to center outer column; Hh2,7,Nnn3 lower corner marginal loss.
