Description

General title page (1608) with woodcut border comprising twenty-four small compartments showing the tents of the twelve tribes as well as the figures of the twelve apostles. Title is enclosed within a heart-shaped frame. Text in two column black letter. With Apocrypha as issued. New Testament title page (1608) in facsimile with similar woodcut border. Ends on colophon. With Two Right Profitable and Fruitful Concordances by R[obert] F. H[errey] with printed title page and colophon (1608). First chapter woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces throughout.

[par]^4, A-Z^8 (-A2-7), Aa-Zz^8, Aaa-Hhh^8 (-Hhh8), *^4 (-*1), Lll-Yyy^8 (-Qqq8), Zzz^10. Lacks Gensis 3:19-19:34, the final page of the Apocrypha, NT title page, Acts 12:2–13:43, all provided in good quality facsimile.

Binding

Modern red goatskin with gilt tooling. Front cover with triple paneled border featuring black onlays and gilt lines and drawer handle tools around a central circular design featuring flowers. Spine with five raised bands, gilt tooling to compartments and the words “The Bible” and “1608” lettered in gilt. Marbled endpapers.

Condition

[par1]-A1, A8 silked and guarded without text loss; cropped, infrequently reducing headlines and sidenotes; some staining to foredge on occasion; lower corners repaired (Xx1,2,Yy3, Xxx2,Zzz8-10) with loss to a few lines of text here and there; Zzz4 trimmed to foot without loss; occasional staining; ten leaves provided in good quality facsimile. The faults notwithstanding, a good example of the Geneva Bible with thoughtful and considerate conservation work applied.
