Description
Engraved title page (n.d.) with architectural design featuring the twelve tribes on the left and the twelve disciples on the right with the four gospel symbols at the center. The Genealogies by J[ohn] S[peed] with illustrated full-page woodcuts depicting the lineage from Adam to Christ, issued without map. A full-page engraving featuring Adam and Eve in the Garden bound before the Genealogies. Text in two column Roman font. Complete set of Geneva illustrations and maps. Apocrypha included as issued. New Testament title page (1611) with head- and tailpiece. Ends on the dated colophon (1612). Bound with the Whole Booke of Psalms (1618). Historiated first chapter initials and decorated head- and tailpieces throughout.

Binding
Bound in 18th century Cambridge paneled calf. Boards paneled in blind with corner fleurons around a light brown rectangular frame. Spine with five blind-lined raised bands and a red morocco label with the words “Holy Bible” lettered in gilt. Marbled endpapers. Scratch to front board with corners bumped, light wear to head and foot of spine.
Condition
Some light toning and minor dust-soiling in places; a few leaves with light marginal staining but clean and crisp overall; Qq1 fore-edge margin repaired to verso; Lll6 repaired closed tear at foot.
Provenance
Rear endpaper with laid down letterpress list of mid-late 18th- century genealogical entries relating to the Clarke family; front endpaper with “Eliza Groves, May 9th 1811” in manuscript.
