Description
Begins with the Book of Common Prayer lacking the title page. Genealogies by J[ohn] S[peed] with title page within woodcut border. Ends with the double-page map of Canaan. General title (1628) engraved within woodcut border comprising twenty-four compartments showing the tents of the twelve tribes as well as the figures of the twelve apostles. Title is enclosed within a heart-shaped frame. Text in two column Roman font. Woodcut vignette of Adam and Eve in the Garden (Genesis), David with harp (Psalms) and the four evangelists (Matthew). Apocrypha included as issued. New Testament title page (1628). Bound with The Whole Book of Psalms with printed title page (1628) within woodcut border. Various woodcut first chapter initials and head- and tailpieces.

Binding
Seventeenth century Cambridge paneled calf. Expertly rebound with original covers featuring a central panel and corner fleurons in blind laid down. Spine with four raised gilt-lined bands, blind-stamped tooling to compartments, and the words “Holy Bible” and “1628” lettered in gilt. Original endpapers laid down.
Provenance
“John Needham his book November 17th, 1745” to front blank with note to verso reading: “here is the spring whose waters flow to quench the heat of sin, here is the tree where truth doth grow to lead our lives therein.” Extensive 17th century family records of John Noodham family to verso of NT title and to the end of Revelation.
Condition
Infrequent browning or staining, otherwise clean and bright; Aa repaired closed tear across page without loss; first few leaves of BCP frayed; a few dates inked on title page of the Whole Book of Psalms.
