Description

Engraved general title page (1671) with a red-ruled architectural border featuring an angel blowing a trumpet. Text ruled in red throughout in a two column Roman font. Without Apocrypha, as issued. Printed New Testament title page (1669).

Collation 

A-Z^8, Aa-Zz^8. Lacks final three leaves (all after Revelation 11:16).

Binding 

Contemporary black morocco, skillfully rebacked with original spine laid down. Covers double paneled in gilt with corner fleurons and centerpieces. Two original working clasps. Inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. 

Condition

Covers lightly bumped; Half of rear endpaper renewed; D1 with loss; Lacks all after Rev 11:16; occasional spotting and staining; some page numbers penciled in the margins; a very nice copy.

Provenance

Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. “James Edge Dec 10, 1723 in Old Street, London” in neat hand to front endpaper.
